Logo Design Vs. Web Design

There was a post recently on a design forum that I visit, asking opinions on what is harder: designing a logo or designing a website. This is definitely a good question, and as an all-around designer that has experience doing both, I wanted to dig into it deeper.

Logos are a tricky beast. They is the backbone of a business, and a weak one can make the company look poor. A strong identity needs to have proper colour choice, proper typography, it has to be scalable to all sizes, and an often over looked component - it needs to look good when you fax it. On top of all that, logo designs can go through a number of iterations (especially with picky clients!) before being finalized.

Websites on the other hand -- well -- they are an even trickier, technical beast. Print designers often overlook a key component of web design, usability and accessibility. Is the design going to be a static width or elastic? What will it look like on a high resolution widescreen monitor? Will the position of the search box affect the usability of the site? Will having horizontal vs. vertical navigation hinder the ability for the users to find the content easily? What will the design look like if somebody increases their font size in the browser?

All of these technical questions need to be asked while designing the sites mockup pages (sorry designers!). They are too often overlooked, and affect greatly how well a website will succeed. Just as the identity is important to a company, a bad website can turn customers off your company.

Taking everything into consideration, and having the experience of designing for mainstream web applications, I can put a guarantee on the fact that "proper" website design is more difficult. But what do you think?

I know only very little on web design and logo design.
However it is the career path I would most like to follow (Graphic/Web/Logo Designer).
I have a blog website tracking my progress, I have only been at it for a couple of weeks, watching video lessons and just experimenting, I am picking it up bit by bit, but I don’t suppose its something you would master overnight.

Your site has helpful tips, Thankyou.
